Energy, Sustainability, and Our Future
Muneyoshi Numada
Disaster Management Process Engineering Expert Lecturer
University of Tokyo
Disaster Process Engineering is the basic discipline to manage the total disaster. I focus on the disaster responses research in the total disaster phase by technology and social science.
The motivation to this research is derived from the observed inefficiency in disaster response management in Japan. Despite Japan being a country susceptible to these natural disasters, it does not have a systematic and well-integrated disaster response management system. I have embarked on international case studies of successful disaster management response systems.
Our system “BOSS” has been developed for the assistant of disaster response processes. The information captured is used to develop disaster status maps that shall be used to estimate the damages immediately after a disaster occurrence. Aim of this system is to help in the development of strategies to adequately support and to reduce the volume of damages by showing the huge response workload.
